The year 1991 witnessed the release of the Hindi film ”Prahaar” directed by Nana Patekar. Message given by the film is that the society must have a soldier’s mindset with philanthropic attitude which will automatically make the nation strong. The Prahar Samaj Jagruti Sanstha was founded by Lt Col (Retd) Sunil W Deshpande VSM (Ex CO 2 Maratha LI) with the same aim of spreading soldierly qualities in society namely discipline, courage, vigilance, values of life, service to mankind and patriotism. Col Deshpande was military advisor to film Prahaar

“Prahar Samaj Jagruti Sanstha” organisation of Lt Col Sunil Deshpande. He was military advisor to Nana Patekar’s film Prahar, while he was posted in Maratha LIRC, Belgaum. Nana and Col Deshpande discussed in detail about the concept of Prahar movie, after which the script was prepared and the movie was made. After the release of movie he decided to take pre-mature retirement from the Army and work in society to spread the message of Prahar movie. For pursuing of this aim Prahar Sanstha was formed.
